I went outside this morning to pull weeds since it was cloudy and there was a little breeze. I noticed the tops of the carrots I had planted last fall were turning brown due to the heat. I've been just pulling them when I needed them. I went and got my shovel and dug the rest of them. I had a mop bucket full with the tops and all. When I had cleaned off the tops and washed them I had about half of the bucket. I dried off the bigger ones and put them in a basket in the refrigerator. All the little fingersize ones I peeled and chunked up into soup size pieces and put them in the freezer. Well, I will put them in the freezer in the morning. They are residing in the refrigerator right now. I didn't take a picture of them. They were pretty dirty and the tops were all brown and wilted. But, now we have tomato sauce and carrots for soup, etc this winter. I'll pull some more weeds tomorrow...maybe. dooley
Dooley, Pulling weeds and finding carrots is called serendipity! I planted a bunch of carrots in the fall, and while I was harvesting dill I also harvested carrots. The bigger ones we ate or shared with neighbors. Like you, we froze the smaller ones, cleaned and sliced, for use in stews or soups later. We'll be planting more carrots this fall, since finding carrots among the dill plants was such a fun surprise!
