Went up Island (Vancouver Island off the west coast of Canada) to Campbell River. Every summer they have a chain saw carving contest. These were the ones still left in the park that haven't been distributed out yet. Am always amazed at the fine detail the carvers or sculptors can achieve with their chain saws.
I can't get my head around the fact that these were all carved using a chainsaw!! All of the carvings are exceptional but the dragonfly is my favourite.
these are fabulous. thanks for sharing. we have an ice one in February close to here but I have never made it there. sometimes it is too warm for it and they melt pretty fast but that is what always gets me... they melt!
Stunning! The two elephant heads is a true work of art--I hope it goes to an indoor facility, a museum or gallery, perhaps.
Thanks for sharing your pics with us IL. I especially like the bear and open mouthed cub, and to add the salmon is genius. Very clever.....
Love them! Such totally different styles. I have never seen anything like the dragonflies. Actually they are all quite unique.
Thanks! This is a yearly competition and various businesses sponsor the carvers and also purchase a log. It has always amazed me to see the raw logs and how they get transformed into lasting pieces of art. This is one of my favourites and located outside a Restaurant who sponsored the carver. Probably needs another coat of sealer or stain but overall it is weathering beautifully and actually adds character to the figure.
