'Our' female sparrowhawk paid us a visit today and was caught red-taloned feasting on a collared dove. She is by far the best hunter as her mate and youngester aren't nearly as efficient at getting themselves a meal as she is.

The females of any species, yes, ours too, are the most capable at getting food. Men lie around all day whilst women do all the work.

Is there any way to make the pics bigger so I can get them in the photo gallery properly?

I know Glenda, life is a brutal racket, :'( it often gets me all sniffly,
but wha-cha-gonna-do? Starving sparrowhawks would break our hearts, too.

Well caught photos, Eileen, I have to admire predators like that sparrowhawk,
they take what they require and aren't wasteful.

Richard, did you forget the lions, tigers, bears, sharks, who thought us a tasty meal?

Look where being on top of the food chain has gotten us.

nature is very unforgiving, and it is sad it is a collared dove,as I think they mate for life,we have a pair who live near us and are a bit to cute for the buzzards, but they are always together.

    nature is very cruel.

Beautiful Gal. Nature is no crueler in birds than any other species. We eat meat-something has to die. I just hope a hawk doesn't eat my chickadees!
