The caulis that were planted last fall are starting to come in now...well for a couple of weeks now already.
The neighbour man, Willem who has the plot next to us called out to come and look at what he had. Naturally, I thought it was some monsterous load of spuds that he had lifted, but no....

A devilish grin slowly spread across my face as I looked down at his harvest and then back up at him and asked..."Which one is the cauli"?

Very jealous. Am yet to grow caulis on my plot. What with club root and lack of water, I just can't get the darn things to ever get decent heads, and if they do start to get a head, it goes yellow and horrid when it is still a golf ball. Oh well, I am trying again this year. I will get there eventually I'm sure.

Yeah, that is a very decent cauli that ole Willem has there. Ours are still developing I guess, I have not seen any little heads yet.
I have seen some some calabrese forming a little head here and there though. The kohl rabis are showing some signs of development as well.

You know EJ, there where you live is so hot and all...that the probs that you are having growing them ismay well be down to not enough hydration.
I have noticed on my own that during the spells of little or no rainfall and high temps, I have to give my brassicas water. It is such a shame that you don't have any water supplu there at your allotment.
I hope that they do well for you this year.
