I documented my first migration today! :smt026 When I was having breakfast (and watching the birds) and I noticed a large flock of birds in the distance and wondered what they might be. About a minute later they were darting through the trees in the backyard. I grabbed the camera and started shooting. :setc_080: A few landed in the tree by the kitchen window but most of them ended up in my neighbor's tree. I was not sure what they were as I had never seen a Cedar Waxwing before. I identified them using the Cornell website. Here are a few pics.

Gosh you did well with your camera as those are great shots of the waxwings. What stunning looking birds they are and I'm so glad they stopped by and that you got photographs of them. :D

Those are magnificent fotos, Gail. This bird is one of my very favourite north american birds. I find them so beautiful and with such splendid markings.

I like it that you are documenting migrations. That is such a good thing to do and if you turn in your figures and dates at the end of the year, I would be willing to bet that the bird organization would be thrilled with the data. Perhaps you could even do volunteer work like with a banding campaign or something.
It would be fun...and useful at the same time.

Gail, the Cedar Waxwings really are something to see aren't they? They travel in large flocks! I just love their soft appearance. I had a big flock stop by one morning here to strip what was left on my Crabapples.
    Very nice photography!

What a pretty bird. I've never seen one before. I'm just not that observant of birds but I surely do enjoy seeing them through your eyes.
