We've had one of the best Summers for a few years-hurrah! One of my favourite things to do is chase the Bumblebees around the garden More members of the Bee Team ( photo / image / picture from Kiasmum's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Kiasmum's Garden ) Monarda from seed last year. I've had a good amount of bees too. There's still that one big bumble bee that loves to dive bomb me!
Yes our bumbles have been hard at work also. We are getting a lot of garden veggies because of all there hard work.
Those bees look quite content there on your Oregano. What about that ickle beetle. Have your fall bloomers begun now? Mine are just beginning in the shyest of ways. Chapeau for getting those lovely monarda's from seed. Lovely things, those.
Thank you for liking my Bee team They do work incredibly hard don't they.If they ever disappear then we (the human race) will be in BIG trouble. Thank you Sjoerd.I haven't researched the beetle yet but I'd love to know what it is-I just hope it wasn't eating the dahlia
Hi. Could it be the Pyrrhocoris apterus? We call it the "vuurwants" here. I cannot be sure about that, because of the beetle's angle on that dahlia petal...but it looks as though it could be the Pyrrhocoris apterus. If you look it up, let me know what you think.
You spurred me on to have a good look round Sjoerd and I think this is a Liocoris tripustulatus,if not actually one then it is the closest thing to it on 2 or 3 of the ID sites I found.
Well, 'Mum--I looked up the one that you mentioned above and I see that the spots are yellow where as "my" beetle has sort of red markings on the black wing casings where "yours" has yellow. If you see another one of those guys, please take another coupla pics, would you? I don't know why, but the ID of this lil bug really has my interest now. Knowing the creatures in one's garden is almost as important as knowing the plants themselves, y'know. Good luck wioth your search. Now miss--you let me know if you find anything definitive, Oké?
I'll keep an eye open Sjoerd. I usually keep my camera to hand when I'm pottering... I also find it interesting to try and ID what I take pictures of whether its the flowers themselves or the bugs.
