In all honesty, how many photos do you really want to see?? I took 350 odd, although probably 100 or so were family and odd shots. Well, heres the first batch, if you want more, I can do another batch tomorrow night with the show gardens and so on. So, we had a great day - the weather was amazing. It was very busy, but I have been when it has been worse. I bagged lots and lots of seeds, ordered a alium collection and came home clutching a yellow iris, a black arum and a really odd looking arisaema. I have pics of them which I will have to add later as they are still on my camera! Yellow trumpet sarracenia Carniverous plant display Lupin display Lily Stand Hyacinth Minos - such a scent you couldn't believe! Hyacinth Aida Hyacinth yellow queen The Heuchera stand Cacti Cacti stand Shamrock Green Crysanths Hosta stand Delianne Yellow Crysanth Chysanth stand Barbados display Alium display Alium stand Quilted Velvet show garden Quilted Velvet show garden Pelargonium stand Nature show garden Nature show garden Barbados stand Barbados stand That is all for this evening. I will do another batch tomorrow. Hope you enjoyed them.
Hi EJ-- Well you sure did a great job of taking representative fotos. Of course the flowers and show gardens looked good on the telly...but your fotos seem to show them better--perhaps it is because ithey wewre taken by a normal person rather than by a 'show-maker'. I guess that the cameramen have different goals with filming. I really liked yours alot. Were those yellow Sarracenias the endangered ones that they are trying to rejuvenate? I'm glad that you showed that tower of nests in the 'Nature Show Garden'. I found that thing very interesting. I would have liked to have seen that tropical plant stand of Barbados myself. The Allium stand was nice--did you order a selection of the ones shown in your pics? The Lupin and Heuchera stands were interesting to me as well. It sounds like you were able to spend a few pounds on some nice things f0or yourself. --way t'go! You must take pics once they are established in your garden. Anyway...thanks for showing these--I would be thrilled to see all the rest of them as well. Looking foreward to your next posting of pics. --Get some rest now, you must be totally knackered.
Oh EJ, your photos are wonderful!! I love the Yellow trumpet sarracenia, the Lupin display is amazing, the Lily's, the Hyacinths...the smell there must have been amazing!! I'd love to see more
Now those are the kind of photographs I wanted to see of the Chelsea Flower show. :-D I just don't know where to start saying what I like as I really do love them all but here goes:- The yellow hyacinths I would have made a bee line for as they are so different to the colours I have. Were there any black ones at the show? Their scent must have been out of this world. Of course a favourite of mine are the carniverous plants as they fascinate me and I'd love to add more to my collection. As for those wonderful lupins WOW such bright colours - they would look great against pure whire flowers. As for the lilies, mums, nature garden, Barbados stand.... well I could go on and on and on ....but won't as I must be boring you stiff by now. What seeds did you manage to get? Oh and I'd love to see a piccie of that black arum please as well as lots more of the show. In fact post the lot!!!
Batch number 2. I will have to find the correct titles to some of the show gardens, I have most of the planting lists but I need to work them out with the photos. The Ace of Spades Show garden Pink roses in test tubes The stream garden - I love this one most of all I fear. Again, the stream garden. It has tempted Mark and I into rebuilding a stream in our back garden. An interesting small front garden or back yard type garden. The washing line folded out of the wall so took up no garden space, and the cupboard housed the dustbin and recycling containers. A clearer view of the cupboard. The ripple show garden. The effect was of a ball hitting the ground and the ripples being represented in water then planting. And here is the meteor responsible for the ripples. I have no idea of the garden name, but it had an interesting deck of perspex over a bed of pebbles. Water was spraying up against the back wall then running over the pebbles underneath the perspex. Orchid stand. (I entered a comp to win an orchid collection. Doubt I have much chance, but you have to be in it to win it!) I love these blue mecanopsis poppies. Lavender stand A beautifully manicured garden with only a small pallet of colour. Ken Muirs strawberry stand. He is a famous Essex fruit plant grower and his strawberries make an appearance at Chelsea annually. You could smell them before you could see them! Amazing fruit and veg display from the growers of Jersey. More from Jersey. Peppers from Jersey.
James May plasticine garden. I felt it was probably a bit of a kick in the teeth to the professional growers that the plasticine garden won the Peoples choice award. James May again. You could smell the plasticine in the air....not very pleasant. James Mays plasticine picnic The war heros restful garden. Very peaceful and tranquil. Floral hat Grenada display Grenada stand Eden project show garden Eden project show garden One of my fave large show gardens, the Daily Telegraph garden. Daily Telegraph show garden Cottage garden stand Clematis stand Bonsai stand Bonsai stand Bonsai stand Auricula stand Ariseama
My, oh my Emma...those are spectacular pics. I was quite fond of that mill garden as well. ...and what about that Arisema! I don't think that I could have left Chelsea without one of those. hahaha. It is spectacular-looking. The Jersey veg looked good, didn't it...as did the cottage garden stand. I've heard of Ken Muir's business...in fact, I believe that I have last year's catalogue still lying with the rest of loo reading material. I can just imagine how those strawbs smelled. mine are almost ready to pick and the new ones already have a noticable bouquet. The blue Meconopsis plants have raptureed my imaginatioon. I have tried to seed some, but I just can't get them to germinate and stay healthy enough to make it to the potting-on, so I am looking for a place to buy the Lingholm ones. They are not so popular in this country, sadly. Well...you must have had a super time there. My bride and I were looking very hard to see if we could recognize you in the crowds, but didn't see you. Too bad. I am really enjopying your piccies.
Thank you so much for such a great flower show.It was all so fantastic.I wish I could have been with you all.It was so great looking at all those beauties.I don't see how plastic could have won over all those living plants.
Wow and wow again! The more I see the more I wish I could have been there! The plasticine garden was amazing too!
Oh, oh, oh, lovely! *drooling* Hang on, need a towel. There. It's breath-taking, and beautiful. I could plunder some of those stands without feeling embarrassed about it at all. The alliums, auriculas, veggies and the meteor garden looked marvelous. But so did the rest of them. I didn't quite like the plasticine garden, even though it was fun to see. I've got that Arisaema sikokianum blooming outside here now.
Ooh simply stunning. Fantastic. I love all these gardens and flowers. It must really be something to smeel strawberries before seeign them. Those Hyacinths, th elilies, the roses in the tubes, the PEPPERS, the vegs. I am drooling.....
Thanks so much for sharing this event with us! It's the first time I've seen photos of this show. I'm afraid I'd be on sensory overload if I were there in person. Good that you had the talent to provide such great photos. I love the stream and cottage garden displays and I agree that the plasticine belonged to an art exhibit, not a garden show.
Oh, I just don't have words... I just love it all so much! (except the plasticene, interesting, but not love).... The stream garden is lovely, just has a light sort of feel. And also the Hero's restful garden, I liked that feel too. I think I like the water features. But the cottage garden is nice too, isn't it? Now, on that small garden (in the second batch) with the cupboard for the bins... Do you remember what was growing up the wall in a column sort of shape? Is it attached to the wall or planted in a living wall garden? I like that look of that too. Thank you for the photos, what a treat.
WOW! WOW! WOW! Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed viewing your pics. The carniverous plant display and the lavender were my faves. Didn't get the plasticine, but the bonsai were spectacular. You did a fantastic job of giving us a little peek at the show. Do you have more to share???? :-D
