I have a small cherry plant grown from seed. Now has 9 leaves, looks healthy, in a 8 inch (20cm) pot, it is now 3 months old. What do I do next about watering, fertilization, sun/shade to make it keeping growing healthy? I am watering it every 2 days, no fertilization added so far.
The plant looks fine, no fertilizer needed for now. You can keep it in that pot this summer. If you plan to plant it in the ground wait until the start of winter. Cherries like full sun, however you can grow it this year in a partly shaded location. The leaves will look better.
I would like to see it in slightly larger pot to allow root growth ! Maybe a light feeding monthly ! Pllan on getting it into the ground this fall with some protection if you are in a cold area !
My backyard has not enough space for a tree, so my plan is grow them in a pot. When you say light feeding, what kind of things to put into the potting mix? Cow manure, organic compost (eg. banana skin, apple skin, ...etc) ?
Outgoing, I hope your Cherry plant/tree gives you many tasty cherries. Where I live the birds eat cherries before people can get near the tree. WE have a Mulberry tree across the street and the birds enjoy the berries very much.
I found just few days ago my cherry plant have little problem, there are dark spots on some of the leaves, not sure why it suddenly come out.
Oh no! The other leaves look so good. I hope someone has advice that will solve the problem and save the plant.
