My daughter got a Scooby Doo Chia Pet for Christmas. No where does it tell me what the seeds are! Does anyone know what type of plant it is? My husband is laughing at me - "only YOU would care what kind of plant that is!"
- Definitely NOT only you, Netty, I learned a few years ago that Chia is a variety of Salvia, believe it or not, specifically, Salvia columbariae: http://www.arhomeandgarden.org/plantoft ... -02-07.htm
Wow, whodathunkit? More growing info here with pictures of the mature plant. http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SACO6
Netty: I can't beleive the box doesn't say either. Usually the seeds are some kind of herb seeds. Chives or basil or lemon, something of the sort. Its been a while (5-6yrs) since I got one. But I was reading the chia box just recently before Christmas and that one might have been shaggy-it had herb seeds to grow on it. Don't know if this helps or not but I hope she has fun growing it.
I KNEW someone here would know! Thanks Zuzu and Toni. It's really not a very attractive plant, is it?
My daughter is 4 and this is her 1st little project. She keeps asking me when it's going to grow - it's only been 1 day since we put the seeds on it! She likes to help me in the gardens, especially when it's time to harvest the veggies.
