Today has been rainy, so the ladies stayed in their inside coop. They tend to get bored if they can't be outside, so I try to provide some entertainment. My hens are very fond of volleyball--an apple suspended just a tiny bit above their heads so they jump and peck. They also like soccer--an apple for them to kick around! They aren't co-ordinated enough to play baseball (may have something to do with lack of hands) but they do enjoy a brisk run around the bases--food stashed in three or four places so they have to hunt for it. Chickens are dumb? Who's the one trying to invent pastimes for them? Our hens have a cleaning service (me), a caterer (me), bodyguards (my husband and me), and an entertainment director. I should be so dumb!
Yes Netty, my hens do keep me amused. I love watching their antics! My husband says I need to get off the farm more often, and go where there are bright lights and golden arches.
