This is the chimney scraper that dr bought at the flea market last week or the week before last week. He says you can probably find one like it in a catalog like Lehman's. They have old-fashioned tools. It will fit our chimney fine. In the first picture it is closed. You put a rope on it and drop it down the chimney. Then you use the lever and open it and pull it back up the chimney. It scrapes off the soot and debris that has gathered in your chimney. Dooley Picture #1 Picture #2 Oh, Chance thinks it would make a fine cat catcher, too. Dooley
Well, I haven't ever seen one of those before. What a fascinating implement, I would've NEVER guessed what it was!
I never even knew that tool existed Dooley. That would prevent many a chimney fire. My parent's better not see this topic or they'll stop at nothing to get one!
Off duty firefighters will come to the house here and clean the chimney, check all extinguishers AND leave the house clean. I think the tool is great.....to look at or to catch burglars with.
It sounds great Dooley. If I had a chimney I would sure need one.Santa comes through my door here.It looks like Chance might have happened onto a good thing and not have to chase the cats anymore.
We use brushes over here Dooley. I've never seen a chimney cleaner like yours before. Do they come in different sizes to fit different chimneys or are they adjustable? Another great find!!! :-D
Eileen, it is very adjustable. You lower it down closed on one rope. The second rope adjusts it so that it closely follows the inside of the chimney. Then you pull it up and it scrapes the surface. Innovative and simple, a very old design. We also use brushs here too. Messy work all of it.
I think it could serve double duty and support morning glories!! How cool would that be? One of a kind trellis! Deanna :-D
