These are wonderful Donna. How long did it take you to make them all? Also I hope those who will receive these don't read GardenStew. Surprise ruined!
Donna, it isn't even September and you're doing Christmas gifts. Amazing. The bird baths are beautiful, and whoever receives one is very, very lucky!
Not long at all Frank. Made two at a time, let dry for 2 or 3 days. The longest part of all was waiting for someone strong enough to pick them up and move them to the table. 7 bird baths took about two weeks from start to finish. Thanks for the compliment. And no ruined surprises.
Ronni. Thank you. These are made of concrete. It's a project that Carolyn Keiper put on GS a couple of years ago and I just got around to trying. It was fun and easy to do. Look for Easy Concrete Birdbath. Thanks Jane. Had to make them while I still had leaves.
I was thinking of this project the other day while looking at my Elephant Ears. I really must do this. Your's came out great!
Donna yours came out great :-D lucky, lucky people getting Christmas gifts. Can't wait to see more from other Stewies.
Wow!! They look like the real thing. The recipients and the birds will be impressed. Lucky birds, bathing in luxury. Jerry
Oh boy how I wish I were on your Christmas list!! Those look fantastic Donna. To think that I just threw away all my rhubarb leaves last month. How stupid am I?
I just went back and read Carolyn's original post to see what materials I would need. I already have a sack of concrete mix... just need the sand and sealer. What kind of paint did you use Donna?
Thanks all. Cheryl, I sealed them with concrete sealer left over from doing garage floor, then I used acrylics.
What do you use for the pedestals? I noticed in Carolyn's original posting, she added a rock to the base and was going to sit it on the ground. I think I'll put one on a tree stump. But I would also like to have one sit on a pedestal. I looked at the home improvement centers, they have one where a "rock base" could sit down in it, and the taller ones, would have to have an square area of the base dug into the bird bath. Not sure of which way to go.
I made bottoms flat so they can be set on the ground. They are quite heavy so a pedestal would need to be very sturdy.
