Son and daughter-in-law visited yesterday and brought a present for my birdies, a lovely Christmas wreath. It has all sorts of food to attract loads of different birds hopefully. So far they are a bit wary of it but hopefully they will realise what a feast awaits them and get stuck in :-D
What a wonderful gift for the birds.Hopefully they will be be munching out soon. Thats my first to see a seed wreath. What a great idea.
I've never seen a Christmas garden bird wreath before Gardengirl. Your birds are going to have such a lovely Christmas with the variety of goodies they have.
Did your son and DIL make the wreath. That is the most clever thing I have seen for our little feathered friends. So cute. Looks like you could use grapefruit/orange mesh bags and stuff them with what ever! Your birds will really be spoiled!!
How cool! I wonder if you are supposed to open those mesh bags or let them feed from it the way it is?
Oh that's just too fun. I imagine the question of whether to open the bags will be moot once they are discovered, ravenous little beaks are very adept at ripping through mesh bags!
Although my DIL is a florist, she did not make this wreath, she just bought a few for her shop just to see how they sold. Needless to say, they were all snapped up the first day :-D I don't think I should break the mesh bags open, as CP says, once they are brave enough to come to it, I don't think it will last long. I will try to get a photo once they start feeding from it. This is so different from what the birds are used to at the feeding station that I think it will probably take a few days for them to pluck up the courage to investigate :-D
Such a sweet way for one to treat the birdies. Mine here in the south just help themselves out of my garden.
That is one beautiful wreath for the birds. I have never seen one that nice. I just went out and bought 50 pounds of medium sunflower chips and a 50 pound bag of thistle and it cost me 120 dollars. I hope you attract a lot of birds with it.
Know what you mean Sherry, my birds cost me an absolute fortune but it is worth it to see them come to my garden. Only one thing concerns me about the wreath and that is that with the seeds being enclosed in plastic mesh, they may get their claws caught so I will have to keep an eye on it and if this happens I may have to dismantle it and put the seed into my feeders. I always take the mesh off the fat balls for this reason.
Hey GG. that is a beautiful wreath. (I could do with the 3 millet sprays on the front for Twiggy) I should think the finches will be able to reach the sunflower seeds enclosed in the nets. Also the blue tits should reach the peanuts in the shell. Great gift and unique.
Oh I love these GG. They had them for sale at a local nursery but the nurseryman told me they weren't selling....well they were very expensive. Seeing yours has reminded me - I might take a wander down there tomorrow to see if he has them in the sale. So, have your feathered friends found the wreath yet?
