Tourist season has started in Norway and it's time to open the tourist route between Valldal (the strawberry district above all around here) and https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trollstigvegen soon. The New York Times picked up a video showing how it's done. Here it is: http://nypost.com/video/norways-summers-make-our-winters-look-like-weak-sauce/ Enjoy!
Good Lord!!!!! So here's a question.......how do those snow plows even know where the road is???? I mean, the snow is almost as tall as the machines!
They navigate by the tall sticks by the road. We've got those sticks alongside every road in winter just in case we get a heavy snowfall. Also if you look carefully there are tracks in front of the machine so somebody obviously skied or walked the route beforehand.
Ah yes....now that you point it out, I can see very vague tracks in the snow, and one stick was evident. Wow. Remarkable.
Yet another job on my "so glad it's not mine" list. There are roadways up in the higher elevations of the Colorado Rockies that have those sticks along the edge of the roads too. Many years ago, we drove down one with snow about 12 feet deep on either side....really spooky feeling.
The men that drive the snowploughs and other snow clearing equipment are real heroes in my opinion. Their job can't be easy but they do it to make sure that the roads are clear for others to enjoy their summer. I just hope the snow never gets deep enough to cover those poles!!
Nah, you put out taller sticks and Mother Nature sees it as a challenge to see if she can hide those too. And sometimes it's Challenge Accepted.
THAT is a LOT of snow! When I saw the last picture I wondered if there was a width restriction. It doesn't look wide enough for 2 cars to pass let alone a large truck!
