    Hello All:
Thanks to a suggestion from this forum I decided to buy coir blocks rather than the pellets. Is coir fine enough to start small seeds such as onions or do you recommend mixing the coir with a good seed starting mix ?

Can't tell you how much I appreciate the advice you people give me. Many thanks !

coir is pretty coarse once it is re-hydrated and dries out pretty fast. I don't think I would use only the coir, but try it both ways. You never know, it may be just fine, but I would recommend putting a cover of tight plastic over the tray especially if you use only the coir(you don't want the plastic laying on the media) and keep it out of direct sun (that will over heat and kill the seeds) but keep it warm and bright while germinating them.
