Here in Ireland we play Gaelic football , today we have playoffs between Galway ( our beloved leader , the Gnomes county ) and Westmeath . Bugs will of course be cheering for Galway the reason, the winners today will play my county, Dublin in the semi finals in two weeks time . This is a totally amateur sport , run by amateurs , played by amateurs , except its the most professionally run anywhere . The last game I attended (2 weeks ago ) 82,500 people turned up . There is no segregation between the fans because there is never any trouble :-D My own local team (for whom my son plays ) has 57 teams turn out every week , our neighbours have 65 teams and like to brag that they are the largest amateur club in the world There is great rivalry between the county teams and today will be no exception So Frank while you're away on foreign shores , here's one Jackeen who will be cheering on the Tribesmen heres some pics of the last match 8) Bugs
Hehe thanks Bugs, never really raised to be a Gaelic fan myself but of course I have a interest in Galway's GAA achievements. So up the Tribesmen, when ye face the boys in blue be sure to give them a skelp around the ankles Bugs be sure to update me on the score, I could check it on the Web myself but I'm sure to hear an account first hand will be better Enjoy it!
It is nice that everyone can get along, Americans could learn something about sportsmanship from y'all.
:-D On a local level , particularly in the more remote mountain parts it is not unknown for the referee to be locked in the trunk of his car :-D 8) Bugs
