...... on a tour of my village. Livingston Village is a 17th century village and the cottages, schoolhouse, coaching inn, old manse, church and farmhouse are all under preservation orders. Our cottage built 1685. The road outside our cottage used to be the direct link from Edinburgh to Glasgow for coaches and horses. This is the same road after turning left from the main street where our home is. Part of the old road. The railings had to be erected on the bridge to stop vandals destroying the ancient stonework. The 'Livingston Inn' - old coaching inn. The building on the right used to be a carpenters - he made coffins - and the building on the left used to be an undertakers!! The Old manse. The church. When it was last rebuilt - it's the oldest building in the village and a church has stood here since the 1100's!! A headstone over the grave of a farmer. The farmhouse - now an epilepsy centre. A view of Main Street, where we live, Taken from the churchyard). Our village square. Each year the village is presented with a 30' tall Christmas tree from Norway which is placed in the 'blank' circle shown. One of the features of the square is this. Can you guess what it once was? :-D ** sorry about the bottle - didn't see it when I took the piccie.** The Old schoolhouse. River Almond. Lastly a couple of views of the river that flows through the village, under the bridge and about 200 yards from our back door. I hope you enjoyed the walk through our village as much as I did.
I am on sensory overload right now, my pea brain can not absorb so much beauty at once. I envy you deeply.
Now I won't have to visit as I've had such a complete tour of your village Eils. I love the old style buildings. You could easily be fooled into thinking you were in any decade from the last century. Your cottage is beautiful. They sure built those old ones strong (and pretty). I'm still trying to figure out what that little 'hovel' is. It looks like a statue used to stand there and they just took it away Oh and BTW nice to see the old phone box in one of the pics too. Thanks for taking the time to take pics for us Eils
Thank You!!! Thank You!!!!! I truly enjoyed strolling through your village with you. That was such an enjoyable walk. That has to be the most beautiful site.I do envy you Eileen . I did not know what was in that spot Maybe a guillotine ?
Oh Eileen thank you so much for the stroll through your village!!! I enjoy learning about the medieval period!! If I could go back in time it would definately be that time I would go back to. You are very luck to be able to enjoy it all the time!!
Oh that was such a lovely stroll. I love the old structures and the church. You have a beautiful village. Thank you Eileen.
All I will say is that, so far, no-one has come remotely near to guessing what used to be there. Keep guessing - remember it was built in the village square before 1685!!! :-D
Lovely pictures. Two places I always wanted visit are Scotland and Ireland. Not gonna happen because I am not allowed to fly and it's too wet to walk. dr
You know I thought that too but wrote it off as too ridiculous. But thinking of the time it is from I indeed now think it was a urinal also
