My mother in las is planning on reworking her daylilies this fall, and has graciously earmarked many of the divisions for me! her daylilies are all planted together, with no other flowers. I would like to add some variety to my bed, any suggestions on good companion plants?
Here are a few suggestions you might like to try as companions for your lilies Gardengreenie. Ggarden Phlox, Matricaria "snowball", which looks great all season. Maybe you could try shrub roses. There are a lot of really dainty miniatures around which are scented. Some of the low growing polyanthus would also look good. The Crystal clear variety are really pretty. For something low, balloon flowers and veronica's are nice. You could also could try planting a ground cover of creeping thyme and ajuga as both are supposed to promote the health of lilies. A classic combo is to plant lilies with ferns, which give shade to the lily roots. Lastly how about lavenders as they have the most wonderful scent and attract lots of bees and butterflies? As you can see there are endless varieties of plants that look good with lilies - happy hunting!!! :-D
Thank you so much Eileen! I love the idea of lavender and thyme. Would they work together do you think?
:-D That settles it then! I'm definitely going to try them, and since I'm planning a rather large bed , a few of your other ideas as well! Eileen, your a Doll!
Thanks for the ideas Eileen. I found some gorgeous ones that I want to order for the front yard and I like the idea of planting creeping Thyme with me.
