I love taking comparison photos, and my mom (Ronni) suggested I share some on here.

For some background, we built our house in 2012 and started with a bare back yard and no grass. It's been my project ever since. Getting a thick lawn has been THE hardest part (especially with kid and Great Dane traffic) so I'm proud of how far it has come!

We have planted three blueberry bushes, a raspberry, two blackberries, the hanging pots are strawberries, three vegetable beds, three trees, and a butterfly garden. We also have herbs off the back deck. I get a real kick out of growing things in our backyard that can feed our family.

    A few more comparisons:

Lapins cherry tree, at planting last fall vs now. It even fruited this year! 3 little cherries :)

Pin oak last year vs this year. Slowly limbing it up each year, since their lower branches are known to sag with age.

Blackberry last year vs this year. This thing got mowed down accidentally by our lawn guy, three times! Finally had to put a big blue ring around it so he would leave it alone. It's the little plant that won't quit.

And lastly, the milkweed section of our butterfly garden two weeks ago vs now. The ones on the left struggled a bit due to an aphid problem, but I think we've got it under control so hopefully they can thrive! Can't wait to get these established and welcome the Monarchs!

You've achieved so much with your backyard Paige. I love to see progress photographs and yours are a real delight. I hope you'll post more as the seasons progress.

Wow Paige, even though I live there (or maybe because I do? ;) ) I just hadn't really taken in what a change there's been in the back yard, and the huge amount of work you've done!! It really is very impressive for such a relatively short period of time!

You've made a rather plain yard into some that is pretty and makes me want to walk around and take a good look at it all. You've done a great job! I wished I would have thought to do that.

Really good posting, Paige. I like the before and after method. I can really see the differences. You must be quite proud of yourself. Your plants have done so well.

    Congrats.
