I was told that they did a Cooper's Hawk release here in Indiana. I have seen several Cooper's and a couple red-tailed. Yesterday as I was returning home from town I pulled into the driveway...normally when I open the car door the small birds in the back scatter. This time they let out a alarm and scattered.
I knew what that meant...so I creep into the house grabbed the camera and yep their he was sitting pretty in the lilac bush. Finally was able to get a close up shot of this predator beauty.

Gorgeous shot of a magnificent creature. Hawks are one of my favorite birds...I want to be one in my next life. ;)

That is a magnificent hawk, and a great photo! I love raptors--they are so focused, so strong, and so very quick!
We have Cooper's and Red-tailed here in Texas, also. I love to watch them hunting our pasture just after it is mowed.

They are so beautiful this is the first time I was able to get so close to one. I have seen them in the back pasture also and seen them fly through the yard towards the pasture. He was so focused on a field mouse he did not care that I was about 12 feet from him...clicking away :)

They are for sure a beautiful bird! I am not sure if this one is a young one or an adult? I have seen larger ones fly through the yard.
