Could it be cosmos? Have you found this growing wild somewhere? Or sprouted from a packet of mixed "wildflower" seeds?
Yes it definitely could be cosmos, I planted Some wildflower mix seeds among My Veges for the first time. Do you know how tall they usually get before flowering? They are a little over a foot already
Also I feel like tomatoe plants are popping up randomly and those I didn’t plant? Do these come back after precious years planted?
Pretty weed, popping up all Over my garden. Low to the ground and spreads out. Any suggestions for getting rid of?
Bria, that looks like purslane (portulaca oleracea) which is actually edible. But before you make a salad of it, make sure it's really purslane! Only recommendation for getting it out of your garden is to pull it up, root and all. It has one root and the foliage spreads so it is relatively easy to weed out by hand.
Cosmos usually gets pretty tall...3 feet? It also sometimes self sows from the previous year. I have gotten tomato seedlings so often from my own compost.... Did you use compost from your own pile?
Didn’t use compost, only work castings this year for that Reason, last time I got compost from someone more weeds than ever! thank you all for all the info. Not sure if you can tell but my first forum and lots of questions
If you grow your own tomatoes and toss some that turn bad before you can eat them,,yes they will come up the next year if you are in a moderate climate ! But those that come up the next year from hybrid tomatoes will only be the tiny salad size ! Those from heirloom types will be the same as the parent plant ! I always keep a few of the hybrid types because they are perfect snackers and have a great flavor !
At first I was thinking larkspur but yes it could be cosmos which I think is correct but if it isn't in a good spot I would get it moved quickly. it needs about a 3'x3' area to grow. the other is purselane as MG suggested and yes it is edible. it has a lot of selenium in it.
And they are often quite hardy as well! Yes they are ! I have even had them red and ripe under an early snow !
