The pot had a clematis last year and it was all dried up. So, when moving, I cut all the dead stems. I took out the pot today and was about to throw out the old dirt when I noticed small green growth. Could this be the clematis coming back? I am surprised as my 3 other clematis came back a while back and have buds now. Is it possible that this one is coming back real late? Should I leave it as it is or plant it in the ground and wait?

It certainly looks like a healthy sprout to me Tina. Let's hope it keeps growing healthily for you and that, when it flowers, you'll take photographs for us.

I cut out all the stems from last year. Will it still bloom though? I heard clematis blooms of old stems?

My daughter did the same as you, as did I, and both of our clematis are regrowing and looking good. Laura's already has flower buds on it. All we can do now is hope that they all survive and go on to be lovely healthy and strong plants.

Depends on the type of Clematis. Some flower on old wod and some on new. Basically the rule is simple, ones which flower early flower on older wood, ones which flower later, do so on new wood.
