I was just outside counting hostas. With our latest little beauty, Blue Mouse Ears, we're up to 60 different ones. I think. I might have forgotten one or two, or maybe I counted one twice. Or both. Anyway, that's what I counted, and I'm sticking to it. Hosta "Blue Mouse Ears" ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden )
60 different Hosta's? Oh wow...you are so lucky to have so many Droopy! I think I only have 12 or 13 different ones, but I'm working on it! I have plans to someday add to my Hosta garden
Sixty!!! Well that makes my three seem very inadequate Droopy. I must do something about that situation soon.
COR! You are rapidly becomming THE Hosta queen. You guys have a remarkable collection. This one with Micky Mouse ears is a cute one.
Sjoerd, my friend Kari with the cats has at least a hundred different ones now. We're not out to set a record or anything, we just like them and end up adding to our borders whenever we find a pretty one we haven't got already.
Whew! I dont' think I have 60 different plants, period, let alone that many hostas! I'd love to see how they look all in a group or groups. The newest one is very cute.
Thank you daisybeans. Our next project might be finding out how many different families of plants we've got out there, but I dread the thought of starting.
You've got to be the Hosta expert, Droopy. I haven't tried one since I don't have shade. Are there any that will grow in sun? Those Blue Mouse Ears are cute.
Have you ever posted a picture of all the different ones? That would be amazing to see. They don't do well here in the heat, however the garden centers sell them. Maybe someone that has a huge shaded area with a caretaker can grow them. Mickey Mouse is so cute!
Kuntrygal, I've heard there are hostas for warmer areas, so you might want to check it out. On the other hand, you can grow lots of lovelies we can't so I'm certain you've got something just as nice instead of hostas. I posted some photos on my blog, under "Gardening". The threads are called "Hosta Madness". I'm far from being an expert. They just like it here, and are problem free, so we plant them. There are a few that will grow in my full sun, but since I'm way north of you our full sun isn't very hot. I'd look into it if I were you. Bushes and big perennials make nice shade for hostas.
I have a true weakness for hostas and have (counts on fingers) 8 of them, 6 different kinds. Your Blue Mouse Ears looks fantastic and I'll be looking for it at the nursery (I can hear my hubby cursing already "but I just mulched that area!!") Jenn
Your husband could take lessons from mine. He made us a new border last year, so we could fill it up with more hostas. That little one is tiny, mind, so it needs a place where you won't accidentally weed it out.
