I didn't have my camera but I got a shock this morning. I went out to get the kids off to school and I had a robin fly down and land within 10 feet of me. Then it proceeded to run right up to me and stood there between my foot and my walking stick looking like it felt safe as could be. It actually looked at me when I looked down and stood there like it was saying hello. I don't know if it knew it was safe or mistook me for a tree but it was the closest I have ever been to a wild robin and it really made my day.
I love this Fish...it would have made my day too. Just hearing the cheerful chirping of the robins as I walk in the morning starts my day off right. Maybe one day I will be as lucky as you were.
I love the Robin's too. Especially early in the morning when I walk the dog and I hear them singing. It always puts a smile on my face
Awww, that sounds like a very nice experience. The European robin is very different from the American one, but I can see the behaviour is similar. The resident robin loves to be near us when we garden. I think we make it easy for him to find a snack.
Maybe I can get the robins to come in close when digging in the dirt if I throw them a few worms. The one that sat by my foot ate 2 that I threw in the drive way so who knows. Might have to order a batch of mealworms for them. I am sure the wood peckers would love them.
Aw, what a nice experience you had! I love the robins because they keep me company when I'm working in the yard. I know it's like Droopy said -- I help them find a quick lunch... but I like to imagine they like my company as much as I like theirs! I love the sounds they make -- chup chup chup.
Oh, I love the Robins. They just sing their hearts out! I love to see them do that run, run, run and then stop to check things out! They always hang out with me when I mow, I guess I stir up some goodies for them They are quite gregarious creatures!
I agree...lucky you. I have had baby robins in my yard and I could get pretty close when Mom wasn't around but not the adult ones. Every time I try to snap their picture, they fly off.
I had a robin roost on my front porch on top of the porch light once. Initially, it would fly away whenever I came and went from the front door but became used to it after a week or so. By then I assumed it had laid eggs, three of them to be exact. On one occasion, the male seemed less than pleased and got close to attacking me before I shooed it away. The eggs never hatched, and the mother grew less interested in the eggs as time went on, until one day she left for good and I never saw her again. I felt terrible until I threw the nest over the backyard fence and discovered when the eggs cracked that they had never been fertilized! LOL Recently I was out looking out at the pond behind the backyard when a robin came very close, pecking at the ground for worms which had surfaced because of heavy rains. So you could say I'm not surprised by how comfortable they can get with people.
