Sorry for the bad focus, but we had a rare visit from a Crested Caracara, and these were the best photos we could manage. Crested Caracara ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) Caracaras are raptors, but also will eat carrion. They often harass vultures, making the vultures "disgorge" food. Yuck! Considering what vultures eat the Caracaras must not be very picky as to diet! Crested Caracara ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden )
I had to look up the crested Caracara. I've never heard of it before. It's a beautiful bird even if it eats carrion.
I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of that thick bill or those hooked talons!! You did well to get those photograps as raptors usually don't hang around for long if there are people out and about (unless they're dead of course. )
After receiving in the mail on one day a notice for "enhanced life insurance" so my loved ones wouldn't have a financial burden after my demise, and a notice from a cremation company offering to bury me at sea, and a notice from the local water company about high arsenic levels in the water, I was wondering of the Caracara was waiting for me to become carrion!
Jane, That is one different bird. I had never heard of one either. I thought maybe Chocolate was posting something for us to see. And here it is you with all your death warmed over friends and jokes.
