Last year I was taking pictures of a phlox, and only when I started processing them did I notice this little cricket in among the flower buds

With a bit of research I discovered it to be a Speckled Bush Cricket and lo and behold I saw another just a week or so ago,on a spirea:

They are ridiculously tiny,at between 1/4 and 1/2 inch long to the end of their feelers but very very beautifully marked.

Hi KM, excuse my ignorance of crickets but are they unusual to find in your garden? Do you find different types of crickets or the same kind?

I have seen them before. I never know their name. I only know about crickets that reptiles eat. I used to sell 20,000 every week in my store. There are good profits in them, thar, crickets.

    Nice green little cricket..

We have something similar, but we call it a katydid and it is much larger. It makes a funny clicking noise not a cricket noise.

Frank, I was pleasantly surprised too but the ID guide said that they can be found in gardens and also we are not that far from open countryside. This particular species also likes oak trees-one of which we have as a volunteer in the garden.

So far this is the only type I have found...

Thank you Sjoerd. I love it that tiny creatures choose our garden. :D as long as they don't come indoors though.

Hahaha...ach meid, I don't actually mind if they come indoors, although how my bride would react is a totally different story. ;)
