Some kid found this toad in the school today & gave it to my wife, the science teacher. She brought it home & we let it go in the garden. These small toads live here & bury themselves in the dirt during dry spells. When it rains, they come out, get together with other toads, sing choruses at night, meet Mr/Ms. Right & make eggs & lay them in the pools of rainwater. After heavy rains, it can get quite noisy in the country in these parts.

Monday, a guy I work with told me, he'd been finding these baby snakes at his house. I asked him to give me one, if he caught any more. Tuesday at lunch, I cam back from court & found a snake in a jar on my P.C. It is a milk snake - indigenous to this area. We put it in a small terrarium with some dirt & it buried itself. They are constrictors. We'll be setting it free soon.

And my blood lilies are blooming!

Lovely critters! And beautiful lilies. :D I like the colours of that snake, but I'm not very fond of them.

Now, this is an unusual posting WTD.
That milk snake is gorgeous. The toads sound neat, but I hope that you don´t get too many of them. heh heh heh.
Your `blood lily` is quite the looker.

Three great photographs!! What a gorgeous snake - love the colours. I have toads in the garden and I love to have them as they eat all the slugs. :stew2:

I like the lilies and frog . . . but you may keep the snake. Why do they call it a milk snake? Does it stalk cows, and squeeze the milk out of them :D . . . I am terrified of snakes.

I don't know how they got their name of Milk Snake. They are in the same genus as King snakes, but that doesn't mean much to me, as I am not herpetologist. See this: http://milksnakes.com/

One of the Dallas TV stations showed a milk snake just the other day. I surely am NOT a snake person, but at the time I thought that I had never seen a snake marked so pretty. Now I see two of them within just a few days of each other. Gives me the willies!!

Like the toad, fancy those lillies, but love the snake being a snake lover. Mark tells me one of the stories behind them being called milk snakes is because they like the milk from the cows udders in the fields.....hmmmmm a tall story?????
