I was home today burning unused leave time before I lose it, but they shut down my office due to the 100-year rain we got yesterday - 8 inches of rain. Flooded a lot of places - not mine. Whew! So I spent the day stalking hummingbirds. I used the tripod for the first time & it improved the quality of the shots, I think.

A student found a toad that still had its tadpole tail & gave it to my science-teacher wife earlier in the week. She brought it home & my daughter took it to school for show-n-tell. When we brought it home, we let it go in the back yard. We put a penny next to it, so you can see how tiny he is. My daughter held it.

While stalking hummers in the evening, we spotted this painted lady butterfly on the butterfly bush.

My brother-in-law said, our rain came from Lowell. I heard of Lowell, but did not know it was in the Pacific. Was it? All our moisture this week came from the West & Southwest.

I'm selfishly happy your office closed, because then I got to see all your lovely photos. :D I really like it when the toads are little like that. They're cutest!

Those hummingbird photographs are superb so obviously the tripod did its job. :-D We have tiny frogs in the garden at the moment and they're about the size of yours.

Very nice hummingbird pics. The little toad and flowers were great as well. How much longer will the hummers be around before they migrate?

The male hummers here have already left. Still have some females around, but they might be ones just passing through.

My daughter was inspired by our hummingbird watching yesterday and drew this hummingbird on the dry erase board. Notice her rendition of the black & blue salvia.

Your rain came from Lowell, it formed off southwest Mexico as a Tropical Storm then downgraded to a Tropical Depression and came on shore on the western side of Mexico. It sent storms up into Arizona, New Mexico and far west Texas.

Hurricanes in the Pacific do not hit the west coast of the US, they usually hit Mexico with resulting heavy storms moving into the States.
