I consider myself to be a fairly accomplished cook, but this has me stumped. I just bought a cookbook that has "slow cooker" recipes for church pot luck suppers. What is the difference between a slow cooker and a crock pot? Is there a difference?
Crock-pot is a registered name that can only be used by Rival, the company that created it. Other companies have to call their's Slow Cookers because that name is not a trademark or registered,
I've ran into this and been confused too :-? Glad to know I'm not the only one I thought I'd read once that a slow cooker only has an "off" and an "on", where the crockpot has several settings. Anyone else heard of this???
I have had both a Crock-pot and a Slow Cooker over the years. The slow cooker I have now is a West Bend and it has different heat settings just like a Crock-pot, if you look at slow cookers from other manufacturers they all have a variety of heat settings too. So basically the only difference between the two is the brand name....Rival makes Crock-pot and everyone else has to call theirs Slow Cookers.
Thank you all! I am in the market for a slow cooker/crock pot and I wanted to make sure I understood what they are. Turns out it is what "they is!" Stratsmom, so comforting to know you were confused, too. If it weren't for the Stew, I'd be in a heap of trouble!
