I love amaryllis blooms. I live in zone 5 so I have to bring them inside each Fall. I put them outside the end of May and bring them inside the middle of September. I keep them in a dark closet until after Christmas. Then I get them out and give them new soil and if they have outgrown their pot I give them a new pot. Four of them were gifts. They only one I bought was "Apple Blossum". My sister gave me a white one and a dark red one a friend gave me "Red Lion". I checked on Monday morning and saw a 16" horizontal stem. I got the pot out and in a few days the stem was growing straight up again. I took this photo this morning.

To the right of the bloom is a 55" tall avocado tree. 14 months ago I could not throw that pit away after eating a Haas avacodo. (That's another story)
