Deadheading is removing the spent flower blooms. It helps promote growth, and tidies up the appearance.

I have a little garden cart that I walk, with me, around the 2.5 acres. I clip all the spent flowers as they fade each week. Come along the middle of the summer, it becomes a big chore but well worth it, things keep blooming longer. I don't let rose pedats fall to the ground. Someone once told me that they draw bugs and fungus.
