Does anyone growing Cannas in the Pac NW have any decent leaves on them yet? Only two of mine are showing life so far, and that only as fat sprouts just coming up. Are they behind, or is that about right for here in May? The ones in the nurseries are already nearly a foot tall, but I have no idea if that is typical.

Prim, the ones in the nursery have been grown hot houses so they get an earlier start than plants in the ground. Cannas are a tropical plant and really don't take off until the temps are pretty warm. Mine started coming up in Feb, but didn't really start growing until late April when our temps were steadily in the 60-80 degree range.

Thanks for the reassurance, Toni - They're my first batch and I'm as nervous as a hen fussing over her nest with them.

I am right there with you, Prim. Only one of mine has one decent leaf. I am not disheartened yet. Lets see if they decide to bloom this year.My first year growing cannas too - in fact first year growing anything.
