Decor in and around the home for Christmas

I bet nobody decorates like I do! My own decorations are not that interesting, but I'd love to see everyone else's.

Well, here is a selection of "must-haves" for Christmas:

This is one of the living-room windows. If you look carefully, there's a Dooley on the window pane:



Two small Santas, made by my small girls, and a big log Santa made by my big girl. The snowman is from a shop:

A hysterical, last-minute, "oh-i've-gotta-have-something-there"-decoration hastily made 11 years ago. It's still with us for some reason:

Thanks, and yes, they are! I've got plenty more of their projects, but haven't managed to place everything just yet. I've got another week to go, I just hope I'll be ready in time.

 

It's always nice to see what everyone else has done. I have my little bear tree up, scaled down this year. I have the garland and bows on the front fence, almost. I was short a few bows and now when I have them it's been raining and I haven't gotten out to put them in place. dr put the big tree up today and we put garland on it, but the decorations are sitting in the laundry room, three storage tubs of them. I can't imagine they will all fit on the tree. I usually hang some from shelves, etc. I have a wreath on the front gate and by the front door and a small one with bear on the front door. We cleaned off most of the shelves and brought out all of the bears. There are 112 in the dining room and I can't count how many in the living room but it must be more than 250. I have just got to start weeding a few out here and there, but which ones?

Those are great decorations Droopy. They always seem to mean more to us when someone we love makes them.
My mom still hangs some decorations I made when I was 4-6 years old and they are her favorites too.

 

Oh Droopy, those are niiiiice! You sure do have lots of decorations, and they're all good.
It looks like all your family have a talent for making decorations. They have a festive look.
I have to say that these items look very well made too.
The decor that I find the most interesting though are the outdoor greeters. I have never seen such, and find it such a good idea, Very fancy indeed.

 

Very nice droopy, i love it when the childrens collectables are brought out every yr. I do the same, even when i came over here i had to sort thru what i wanted to bring,, my daughter sent me the rest. so i put out also, an it makes me feel good to have my children around even tho their not here.

I see you have the traditional decorations also,,lol. i have them too. your right you have to have the stars in the windows, an the heart candle holders, the straw ram,,, i forget what its called,,, something bakken. (gettin old, or its just late,,lol) an ofcourse the Nisse,, gotta have the nisse. I have 2 dolls that i put in the living room.

For those that don't know, Nisse isn't santa claus at all. Nisse is a 2 foot troll who watches over your house an animals, an you have to treat him right by feeding him on christmas eve. Or else,,,,,, Risgrøt, rice porridge with butter sugar an cinnamon. (did i get that right droopy)

 

I love your decorations Droopy .I sent Heather some of my decoration she made me years ago and a few of my moms as I know she will cherish them as I have.
I had some very cute ones now this year I will get to see them on her tree.I know you are proud to display all those that those tiny little fingers put together for you with all the love from them.

 

OH! How very lovely and wonderfully festive your home is, Droopy!
Sentimental ornamentation is the BEST!
Especially at the holidays, when we keep those we love particularly close to heart.

Dooley, what does a bear tree look like? Is it a small tree for your bears? I'd love to see those bows on the fence.

Netty, that's so sweet! I think my mother has some figures made from fir cones, nuts and red cloth that I made when I was little.

Sjoerd, there are a few of those around. It's nice to light a candle in their small lamps when evening approaches.

Biita - geitebukk. It translates to goat's ram, meaning billy goat. The nisse tradition is still very much alive, and your porridge sounds perfect.

Droopy, you are a Christmas Extravaganza. Don't the little ones get excited when the Cristmas decorations that have been sleeping blissfully in the attic come out again. Every one with their own special memories of these happy times, past and present. :-D

 

So true, Frank. Sometimes the amount of work involved doesn't show too well, but I know it's in there somewhere.

You said it so well, bethie. Christmas is the only time when our home is awash with glitter, decorations and lights. Except from the girls' birthday parties. Balloons everywhere.
