    Hello everyone,

This is my first post here, but I hope someone here will have some suggestions for laying out a new studio apartment. I will be moving to Boston soon for graduate school, but I will be moving from a near 1,000 square foot two bedroom townhouse to a 543 square foot studio. I do not have a ton of things, but working with smaller spaces is new to me.

A floorplan is shown below, and I could really use some new idea on how to lay out a place like this. I'd really like to get a sofa and loveseat set in along with my full-size bed, but I don't see that happening right now. I'm hoping for some new eyes on the challenge.

If it helps, here is a list of all the big peaces I have.

    Three seat sofa
Two seat loveseat (can leave either the sofa or loveseat, and can replace either with 2 armchairs)
    2 end tables
    rectangle coffee table
Flat screen TV and thin tv stand

Full-size Captains bed with under-bed storage
Executive Desk (about two filing cabinets worth of length more then a student desk)
2 Ladder bookcases (was going to put them on the empty dressing room wall)

1 oval dining table with folding leaves that make it a rectangle 2 chair table + 2 dining room chairs

Small set of 3 nesting nightstand tables
    1 Three panel folding screen
2 footlockers (usable as tables, but enough closet space to toss them into as well)

Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

As a quick tip, make sure the focus of your studio isn't your bed! Doing so creates a permanent feeling of being in someone's bedroom, which isn't ideal when having guests over. Unless you're 13 lol

I would try placing the bed back by the closet in the living room or the dressing room, creating "walls" with your screen, desk and possibly stacking the trucks if the have the "look". I have found that when my couch/seating area is facing the windows the room feels bigger, lighter and more spacious. Of course the most comfortable seating is always facing the TV. I would be more likely to place it on the wall in your space.

We have a small living space also and know the challenges that it can bring. Over the years we have limited ourselves to a comfortable loveseat couch (no more than two people ever sit on a couch anyway) and two comfortable leather chairs (on the smaller side) and found a round table works best in our smaller space. Two ottomans act as extra seating/storage when needed and are in place of a coffee table. Good luck.
