So I was always the family member who baked the desserts for all the family gatherings. My two speacialties are a Brown Apple Betty which is a apple pie of sorts and a PumpkinPie Cheesecake which is self explanitory. But over the past year I've started to try my hand at cake decorating. My first success was Chelseas second birthday, I didn't use fondant but I bought icing dye. Its not the usual food coloring. Its a lot bighter and only takes a dab to make some color. I tried with food coloring and still got a dull color with a whole bottle.

Then I desided to try my hand at fondant. Here's Kaitlynns 12th Birthday cake.

And last week was Chelsea's third birthday, so here I tried something different. It didn't work out to well. But it looked great for a minute. I made papa smurfs house using fondant on the cake pieces. That part came out great!

Then I put the house on another piece of cake I iced in green icing to be the scene. But never thought the house would sink in the cake base. Note to all never put a fondant cake on a iced cake! Papas house looked as if it went into an earthquake! But I got a quick picture before the complete sinking.

I've also made some cool forth of july cupcakes this summer. It wasn't the look that made them special, I'm sharing this lil trick because if you are a person who likes to have fun and mess with people then your going to love this. Right before serving the cupcakes I sprinkled them with Cherry flavored pop rocks. It added quite the lil surprise to the eater. But you have to serve as soon as you top with the candy or they will start popping from the moisture in the icing.

I've got a ninja turtle cupcake design that I'm going to try in November, I will let you know how those turn out. Hope you enjoy your day. And if you have any cake design tips please share. ;)

Mrs. G, you have many hidden talents! Those decorated cakes and cupcakes are beautiful. I think the slightly-out-of-kilter Smurf house is adorable!
Keep practicing, and feel free to send any "failures" to me.

I really like the smurf house too. My kids would have loved to see it sinking through the 'grass.' I would have told them that smurf houses could either be above ground or below and that I'd made them one that could be either.
You can probably tell that I had a story for every 'failure' that I baked and decorated.
