Jerry has mentioned in the Good Day Thread that he is cleaning up and will post more information when he gets a chance.

Ed posted a few photos of flooding in his blog... http://www.gardenstew.com/blog/index12369.html

I imagine some of the others are without electricity at present and will post when power and internet are up an running again. Or are busy with cleanup and we will hear from them soon and hopefully without reports of any serious troubles.

The first few sprinkles on Saturday indicated that the extreme northern arm of the hurricane had reached our area. It would not be until the small hours of Sunday morning that the wind and rain began in earnest. The eye of the storm would pass 150 miles to the west but as the storm was 600 miles wide it didn't mean too much. We lost power at 9:16 in the morning, not to be resumed until 12 ours later. My barometer, actually an old altimeter, is extremely accurate for measuring the falling pressure. It hit a low of 28.74 in Hg sometime late morning. Wind gusts approached 70mph as the trees whipped side to side. Leaves shredded from the canopy littered the ground. Throughout the storm birds visited the feeders in unusually high numbers. During a lull I had to replenish the suet feeder, the woodpeckers were very hungry. Despite the tree top movement the squirrels hung on and weathered the strong wind gusts. By late Sunday the worst had passed. We live on a hill so flooding was never a concern, tree limbs were a different story. One limb took with it the only line without a feeder as I had removed it the day before.

    More stories to come,

    Jerry

Jerry, so glad you survived with minimal damage. I hope everyone else will check in with equally good news.

Thank you Jerry for the update. I'm glad to hear that you had hardly any damage from that storm.

Toni: thank you for the heads up as to where I can find out more info on how others are fairing from that storm. I to am praying that everyone who went threw it will have reports of just power outages.

Have a blessed day everyone. :stew1:

When the wind and the rain picked up we expected the power to go out, we were not disappointed. As the hours ticked by we did not know when the power would return. Another concern crept into the hurricane equation, the refrigerator freezers would begin to warm and the food would be in danger of unthawing. I wanted to monitor the temperature without opening the door every few hours. I looked around and realized I had what I needed. Two remote outdoor temperature sensors. Into each freezer they went and for the rest of the day without opening the doors i monitored the temperature. The power returned after 12 hours, the air temperature inside the freezers had stayed below 24*F. With the power on the temperatures returned to normal.

Jerry that was great thinking on your part to use those thermometers to keep an eye on the freezer temps. Will keep that in mind. Glad you power came back on so soon. So many are still without power and a place to live. One has a hard time believing the pictures you see of the horrific damage that storm did. Plus all those people didn't have flood insurance. Yikes I will definitely be keeping them all in my prayers. :stew1:

I live in Southern New Jersey. There was a lot of flooding in the basements in this area, but all in all we managed to escape better than we had foreseen or been warned about. Not so lucky were those inland in PA, NY and New England. After experiencing an earthquake and a hurricane five days later...I feel blessed to only have a few branches and twigs to pick up. We are pretty much back to normal now.

Kathyd: Good to hear that you didn't get to much damage from that storm. I feel sorry for people who were flooded out and didn't have flood insurance as they never expected to see flooding in their areas. I to feel extremely blessed to live in the area of the country that hardly ever gets really back weather. Except maybe a huge snow storms. Those are no problem as you can plow and snow blow your way out of that. Thanks everyone for the updates. Hope you all have a safe Labor Day. :stew1:
