Didn't need them, but they were on sale

Several of us posted recently about not being able to pass up a plant/seed packet/sack of bulbs. Well, I must admit I am one of the worst offenders.
We were at Atwood's today to get a 40 lb. sack of sunflower seeds for our bird feeders, and I found 10 two year Jersey Giant asparagus crowns for $4.99, a mix of many colored bell peppers, a type of sage I don't have, and two packets of lettuce seed for succession planting.
What was I thinking of :-? ! Now I need to start new seed cells on the plant shelf and figure out where I'm going to stick these in the garden, and oh, boy, is this fun!

Oh, good I am not the only one doing that this early in the year. I was online looking for a couple of specific Daylily cultivars (which I didn't find by the way) but I just couldn't resist looking around....just to see what they had since everything was 40% off ...and ended up making an order for Black Gold and Mystery Night Lilies, Buddleia davidii 'Black Knight', more Asclepias tuberosa, some Ixia bulbs, some Toad Lily bulbs and am getting a pot of free Sedum with the order.

Having to wait to start my seeds is worst then waiting for Christmas when I was a kid. I'm just hoping the snow and cold is gone by the time I get back home from Ca.

I have the same affliction that you have Jane. I was only going to order a couple of packets of seeds today but ended up placing one for 24 packs!! I haven't a clue where I'm going to find the space for them all but who cares - at only 59p a pack (RHS heirloom seeds)I was going to complain. :D

I am restraining myself this year since the new/old beds are getting redone. I really over did it last year so will try to take it easy this year. Need to know how much all the new and moved plants will grow and expand.

I am so embarrassed. I bought several new to me lilies. They came so late in the fall and I was so busy with work I am not sure exactly where I planted them in the bed  Hope they can withstand the slugs since I can't protect them if I don't know where they are. :( Still have a half dozen plants from the fall plant exchange that I can't decide where to plant them :-? Think I will wait to see what the spring plant exchange has to offer and take care of my last score.

I am still drooling over seed catalogs though, but I have hidden my credit card

Way to go MG. It isn't a curse...it's a gift-- Finding and acquiring gardening "deals". ;)
The gardening magazine that I subscribe to gives a free pack of seeds with every new issue each month.
If I cannot use the seeds, I place them on the table in the clubhouse and there are gone within a week.

I am always on the look out for "deals" and quite unashamedly take advantage of them where I find them (sometimes to the dismay of my partner).

Those ones that you found, will give you that extra little challenge of where to plant them. --it's all part of the game isn't it. :)

I was good the other day and just walked right pass the display with all the bulbs. I told it "Nope... not going to get me this year!" :-o

Cheryl, it seems you have completed the 12 step recovery program for gardeners.
I cannot imagine you passing up a bulb display. Were they by any chance light bulbs?

Had to have been light bulbs, no way our Cheryl would pass plant bulbs without at least stopping to drool.

    Light bulbs. HaHaHa!
Nope... it was one of those displays with Daylilies, Caladium and assorted other bulbs.
Last year I couldn't resist and bought stuff that I shouldn't have at this time of year. I vowed then that I would not fall prey again. :stew2:

Woohoo John, now I know what I have to look forward to! We have an asparagus patch, but the variety is U57 or some such that is supposed to be very good for Texas.
The Jersey is all male, so I won't have to go around cutting down the female plants which set seeds and produce little or no spears.

Well Jane, I ordered another 6 packets of petunia seeds just the other day (since my first batch hasn't germinated yet)... and that was the small order. Each of those packets were 100 seeds/10.00, but my real order of seeds (mostly vegetable) came to 400.00. ouch! and then I have ordered a few more here and there. I think I am the biggest offender on here. You all don't want to know how much I spend each spring getting ready for the season. I am just glad to be able to sell most of them that I don't plant in the garden. And I am soooo ready for it, too. No end in sight at this point of the bitter cold.

Jane, That "light bulb" comment was funny, I went to Lowes for a bulb a couple weeks ago for the oven....How many styles of 40 watt oven light bulbs are there available? let me think...Oh, ONE! that is it! I couldn't find one in the bulb isle, so I went back to the appliance dept. thinking that maybe they would have a rack of them there....nope! so I asked a clerk for help. She said, "Those are in the light bulb isle." I said I couldn't find one there (I don't think she wanted to help me) and asked her to maybe see if I over looked them? So she said "did you bring the old bulb with you"    DUH! She looked for 5 min. for bulb, to finally say they must be out of them, "see, they were right there in that spot . We should have them in tomorrow, stop back" can I just say I was a little irritated with her attitude at insisting they were in the light bulb isle and I missed them and did I bring the old one...I wondered if she had never changed the light in her oven herself. maybe not.

The best thing about asparagus and Rhubarb is they both are early spring tonics. :-D :-D
