This morning we had another meeting about the summer reading program. We had things all set and all I had to do was type up the plans for each day. Dan and Mary were meeting this afternoon to order craft supplies and Prizes for games and books read.
Mary said that her girls didn't get out of school until the middle of June so they wouldn't have the opportunity to read as many books as the kids who get out the end of May. Mayer Elementary always gets out the week before Memorial Day. We decided that kids going to schools that ended after the start date could pick up their reading charts and start reading before they joined the program.
Well, Dan called this afternoon. Disaster loomed. Mayer Elementary school, where the majority of our kids will come from, isn't getting out of school until June9th. Our program was set to start June 6th.
We had a bit of leeway because two people haven't yet comfirmed dates. So, we could move the introduction to the first program date if we could get the Wildlife Ass'n. to change their program to another open date. Dan called and they said no problem but their director would have to call tomorrow after he talks to the people coming. So, the last fun day will be August 1st instead of July 25.
Dan just decided that he would check after Mary said her girls wouldn't be out by June 6th. Now, when John took the posters and bookmarks to the school, the dates were clearly written on them and not one person said, "Hey, school is out a week later this year." Thanks, guys! Real nice of you to tell us.
But, I am glad Mary brought the subject up and Dan decided to call or we would have been standing there with no kids on June 6th. Dooley

Phew Dooley I'm so glad Mary was around to bring the subject up in time. I wonder why no-one else pointed out that school was out a week later this year - especially if they had kids participating in the summer reading programme?

Glad it's all sorted now though. :-D
