Hi I'm a newb to both GardenStew and designing a space...so here's my dilemma: I have a large, square bedroom with white walls and taupe-ish colored carpet (both elements cannot be changed). I have tried my hardest to make this space functional and home-y feeling to no avail. I am a costume design student, so I need a workspace and ample storage. I love a sort of mismatched urban, hippie-chic sort of look and I'm a huge DIY-er, so I thought it would be easy... What I have at my disposal are an assortment of original collage-style posters and original artwork that in no way resemble each other in colour or composition (except that they are all very colorful), in addition to a decrepit hand-me-down dresser and a large pink plastic marlin hanging on my wall. Hooray! <-- varied, eclectic interests. I would post a pic of the actual room, but it is in such a state of disarray that I would only embarass myself, so here is link to the floorplan: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/ ... /2bdrm.gif I think what I want is to just start from scratch again, but that's the problem. Where do I start?! *pulls out hair in frustration*
My philosophy would be to combine function and form. What you've given me is not too detailed, so I don't know where I would start working with, but since you mentioned a problem about needing workspace, I suggest you start with that. Do you live alone? If you maybe you can convert the other bedroom into a sort of storage room. And since you're big with DIY, I think you can create shelves that attach to the wall easily. I suggest you pick a wall in one bedroom where there are no windows, no doors, just pure wall and put the shelves there. That would make it easier for you to haul your things into that room and neatly arrange your things into the shelves.
