    More back yard observations:

On many occasions I have seen several crows usually more than 10 fly to a group of trees and sit. O.K. sounds normal enough.....then they start crowing and periodically one will move, then another and another. This may go on for several minutes moving from tree to tree until one flies off. (the winner?) The others soon follow.

One time, maybe but many times?

    Just wondering,

    Jerry

It's an interesting observation Jerry. After seeing playful lambs having races in the fields I like to believe that all animals play games of some sort. These games could be useful learning exercises or in the case of the crows a way of establishing a 'pecking' order?

All of the corvine family are very intelligent birds and I know they can be taught to play simple games. I don't really know the reason for the behaviour of the crows you've witnessed but I do know that they have been proven to 'play' and even interact with other species.
