Cousin James resides in a different state. He has a magnolia tree. He told me he has seen red berries on it. He and I have never seen a magnolia tree have red berries. Please explain.
Magnolias certainly do produce fruits. otherwise how would they propagate themselves in the wild? Ours have red seed pods on most years. I have even taken the seeds from them and tried sowing them. Trouble is that the local mice adore them and dig them up.
Some magnolia's produce "fruits" that vaguely resemble hand grenades, or perhaps remotely....pineapples. The red berries are on the outside of these fruits. See foto: Credit: Taken from "Today's Homeowner" website. I believe that the foto features a seed fruit from the Magnolia grandiflora.
