Or do you use a separate bed away from the rest of the garden? I plan on cutting a metal barrel in half, taking out the bottom and setting both halves in the ground to plant the starts in. I've read that horseradish is an aggressive spreader, so I planned on the above to keep it in check, in on of my regular garden beds.
I have Horseradish planted in dry, sandy soil and it hasn't spread much in the 3 years it's been there. Most plants wouldn't even live in that spot so maybe that's why! LOL
While the barrels last, that will work. I have also simply planted in an isolated bed and mowed volunteers. IMO they'll both work.
Very good sir! How dry must the isolated beds be? I can plant in one that is temporarily drowned during heavy rains. (usually 3 to 5 days) I could also use the barrel to build a raised bed of sorts. Otherwise, I would have to cut out a 'new' isolated bed.
I don't know really. never tried to drown a horseradish. If I was guessing I wouldn't want to start them out under water, but horseradish is tough. I'd want the end of the wager they could take occasional flooding.
