Do you grow your onions from seed? If so do you start them indoors? This will be my first try at growing them. So is it seed or sets? Any and all advise appreciated. moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
Donna, I've never tried onions from seed, since they take up quite a bit of garden space in winter (onion seed is planted in Nov. here)while we are prepping the garden with compost and manure for spring planting. However, we do use the little bulbs, planted now, for our main crop, and get the pre-started tiny green onions for the early crop.
Donna, I did last year, but I ran out of garden room. They are little bulbs now and will put those in the garden, this year, I hope. They were easy to start, but sets are much easier. There is a cost difference, but I am not sure the time difference is actually worth the effort.
Just get the plants or sets. From seed you might get to plant them next year if you start the seeds now. It isn`t worth the trouble.
