There are some great lichens around. They are very versatile too as they grow on anything and everything. Here is one on a tree branch. This could get you interested in them too.

I'm use to a pale green lichen that grows on rocks and trees. Wow! Yellow lichen with an unusual shape, definitely worth investigating.

Well I didn't really pay much attention to lichens until you pointed out how diverse and attractive they can be. Now I look closely at everything I come across. :-D

Kildale, I enjoy your photos flora & fauna! My family once took a ranger led talk on "The World of Lilliput: Lichens, Moss, and Mushrooms". It was many years ago, but I still remember how facinating it was.

Something i just took for granted up to now,..we do get a huge variety here close to the river and lake.

The world Of Lilliput: Lichens,..Moss,..and Mushrooms,..what a great title,..i used to live in the shadow of Saint Patricks Church where the writer of Lilliput was at one time the Dean,..Jonathan Swift.
