When our boys were young we would all go out when it snowed and make snow forts and snowmen and have snowball fights. We all shared the chore of shoveling. It was great fun. Now, at my age it isn't so much fun. This morning I took the broom and went to sweep the snow off of the deck and steps and found a thin layer of gritty ice. I know last night when we went to bed it was snowing little ice pellets. There was no school this morning as it was too slippery for the buses. The three kids next door were out, all bundled up rolling in the snow and trying to make something out of the fluffy stuff. It wouldn't stick together so they ended up just scraping it into piles as high as they could. It still didn't look like a snowman so they were jumping into the piles. They sure were having fun. The last snowman that I had anything to do with was in Arizona when we got a heavy, wet snow. I "helped" Chance make a snowman. She was running through the snow rolling it up with her nose so I helped her make the snowballs larger. There are some kids though that do not like the snow. When one of our boys was old enough to go play in the snow we bought him a red coat and hat and new red boots. With every step he took he had to stop and wipe the snow off of his boots. He turned around and went back in the house so his new boots wouldn't get all dirty. I didn't play in the snow today. It was cold and the wind was blowing. We did go into town so I did drive through the snow. Slow and easy. There wasn't much traffic so we got our dog food and a few other things, had lunch and came home. Now, all the open spots have no snow and under the trees and in the shade there is still snow. If it does get up to 50 tomorrow it should all go and that's the way I like it. My share could have gone north to Toni.

As I get older, I enjoy the snow and cold less. When you have snow on the ground for 3-4 months at a time, it isn't fun...it's just another chore to keep things shoveled. My youngest likes to go out and play in the snow, but not alone. I go out once a winter and help her make a snowman.

Well I used to enjoy playing in the snow when our children were younger. We always had a dog in tow too which made it even more fun. We'd build snowmen, sledge, make snow angels and throw snowballs. :-D Sadly they've all grown up now and we don't have a dog so we don't enjoy the snow so much these days. Tunneling out of around five feet of the stuff this winter certainly didn't make me feel it was something I really wanted to play in. I wonder why?

It's fun when you can enjoy it. My knees, etc, tell me it's time to stop playing and just get rid of it anyway possible.
But, everyone should have the experience of playing in it.
My next youngest sister lives in Phoenix, Arizona. It never has snow. Our youngest sister lived up at 7,500 feet near Flagstaff. When they would go to Phoenix in the winter they would load the back of their truck with snow and carry it down the mountain and dump it in the front yard of my sister's house.
My sister said they had kids coming from blocks to play in the snow. Some she had never seen before. They all had a good time until it was gone.
One of my nieces was twelve years old before she even saw snow. She didn't consider herself too old to play in the snow with the "little" kids.

What a lovely thing for one sister to do for another. I can just imagine the looks on the neighbourhood childrens faces when they saw the truck pulling up and unloading all that snow. :stew1:
