As its now late autumn early winter I thought I better be looking for new garden fleece, found five jackets at Amazan. I have a few tender plants I need to protect from frost from Tenerife. moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
I never cover anything with anything. If it can't take the cold it's the wrong plant for me. I keep forgetting to pull tender bulbs or plants, and suddenly I'm too late.
Thanks droopy, I dare not allow a new plant Swan's neck to die. I have had it for a few weeks now, nursed it through the settling in period. It's a beauty. No wonder you want to cover it. We've got some really determined people who insist on growing palm trees up here in Norway. They go about it in a big way and actually build winter houses around their palm trees, expanding as they grow.
Thanks Droopy I need to take a new shot because the center has grown some now into a pointed leaf thats the new stage. I tend to molly coddle my plants from different places. Thats native to portugal but I saw it in Tenerife. Palms, wow, again on hols in september I saw a huge palm I fetched home seed from, just three. One is going to Sweden a member here. I fully intend (God willing) t sow this palm in the spring..oh boy If you saw where I liv and the garden size you would say...nononono.. The image is on a golf course. Droopy, This is how my plant will look when it grows lol Swan's Neck ( photo / image / picture from kate's Garden )
Oh I love that Swan's neck. What an amazing beast. I don't fleece much in my garden, but I do use it on the allotment to protect the winter lettuce from the worst of the weather. I do use it a lot for my customers who have tender plants that they like to overwinter in the ground. Just yesterday I wrapped a standard fuschia up to protect it. I buy mine in bulk from Kays Horticulture as I need it both for work, and personal use, but B&Q sell it quite reasonably.
Oh boy your swan's neck is going to be absolutely gorgeous. I'd be molly coddling it for sure - it could even have its own room here in the house. I no longer fleece any of my plants during the late autumn and winter months but I do keep them in the greeenhouse so the frost can't get at them. :-D
Your Swans Neck sure is an interesting plant...I've never seen one before! I wrap a few of my small shrubs that get the NW winter winds, but I think it's more that the deer and bunnies don't get to them.
Thanks for the great replies everyone. lol at Eileen If thats too much for the garden its said its from the Foxtail Lily family http://www.expressgardenshop.co.uk/Inde ... catno=B577 I wanted the dramtic though just to be different lol
