I try to use gloves when I weed and plant. I was only going to snap a few photos of my blooms, and this is the result: Me in a nutshell ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Please tell me I'm not the only one who gets her hands dirty every time I poke my nose outside!
I swear I don't even have to walk outside and touch anything. All it takes it thinking about doing work in the garden and my nails are dirty and hands start to look older. I never use gloves so when I am done I spend 10 minutes at the kitchen sink with the toothbrush getting my nails clean. Wondering if I am really done for the day or will be back at the sink a couple hours later.
I maintain that dirty hands are happy hands, and anyone who doesn't scrub for five minutes after visiting the garden, just isn't doing it right!
Good! All my neighbours and friends (well, most of them) use gloves and have clean hands and nice nails. I thought I wasn't abnormal in any way but it's nice to get it confirmed.
it doesn't matter with me, either....i can't go outside without sticking my fingers in the dirt. i wear gloves for the heavy duty things (with tools, and extensive weeding), but i lather my hands with thick hand cream b4 i put my gloves on, and my hands still get dirty! i also save the dishes for the end of the day....nice hot soapy water to help get them clean ( i wash most of it off before doing the dishes)...but this time of year, there is always dirt around my nails, no matter how hard i try and clean them!....
I really hate gloves, if I'm going to work with soil I wan to feel it's texture and moisture. When it's time to wash up, a surgeon's scrub brush does the trick. Jerry
I never wear gloves either, even working in the thorns. When my husband goes out he wears a long sleeved shirt and gloves every time. I must be immune to just about every noxious weed, as I don't seem to react too bad. I don't handle poison ivy or anything like that (at least not on purpose).
Oh, Droopy. Are you sure that is your hand and not mine? ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden ) and this IS clean now. I washed and scrubbed and washed again, all to no avail. Aren't they lovely?
Yes Carolyn, your hands are lovely! Those are hands that do and get results. Congratulations on having hands to be proud of!
Hi everyone--those photos of hands could be mine! I scrubbed my hands three times today after weeding forays!
Yep! I look like that even if I just go out to water because I stop and pull weeds or loosen soil and pretty soon I'm down on my knees digging something. I scrub them and finally run the sink full of soapy water and go to cleaning up something. I cleaned the top of the fan over the stove this week. Of course, then my hands were greasy and needed washed again. dooley
Thank you, Jane. They are working hands. That's for sure...and my husband thinks I spend a little too much time on the Stew.???/really??? just because the pea fence didn't go up or the beans get weeded today.???SORRY Dear!!!, I WAS busy in the garden/greenhouse/hightunnel. Not like I was lurking here all day.
I don't like to wear gloves either.... I remember one day I went into the mall in Appleton and a lady that works on nails asked if she could do mine. I told her not to bother and she agreed after she saw what condition my hands were in.
I don't wear gloves either. They just get in the way of the fun stuff! And usually my feet are just as dirty as my hands. Good thing for nail polish!
