Zinnias are one flower that I plant every year. Chance liked them, too. Especially the giant pink ones. I finally remembered to go to the end of the house with the camera and take a couple of pictures of them. Butterflies really like them, too. I only managed to get one butterfly in the pictures and it's a small one on a small orange flower so you might miss it! A close up of one corner! I can tell you which picture it is in but maybe you want to find it by yourself. dooley
Funny you should mention Zinnias. Last year I planted some for the first time. They did great! So this year I made sure I'd plant lots of them. I put in at least 24 of them in early spring. Can you believe none of them lived? Not even in pots. Not even in the ground. Not even in the sun. Not even in the shade. I figured it had to do with our long winter. So... a few months later, I bought at least 12 or 18 more. Can you believe that only about 4 of them are doing "so-so"? And I bought them from two different reputable nurseries. Guess it just wasn't meant to be for me this year. I'll try again... And so glad your's are going good Dooley!
Maybe you were too nice to them Cheryl, I just buy seeds in packets and open the packed and toss them into the dirt. This spring, the weeds grew so tall I almost couldn't see the zinnias. After I pulled the weeds they started growing and sometimes I even remember to water them. There are giant and dwarf in that bed. On the front there are just giant. When they finish flowering, just take the seed pods and crumple them up into the flower bed and some of them will come back next year. dooley
Zinnias are one of my favorites. I ran out of room this year and did not plant any but I got a nice surprise when a few popped up on their own.
No, I don't like Zinnia's. I LOVE them! They are one of my 'must haves' every year, short ones, tall ones, spider ones. They do the best out of all my annuals as they don't mind the heat, are drought tolerant, deer and bunny safe, and make excellent cut flowers. Yours are very pretty Dooley.
I guess I just need to get some seeds next year. But my problem... I might just pull them up thinking their weeds!
Zinnias are my "Glenda" flower because right when I jointed GardenStew she sent me some seeds and they were amazing!!! I try to plant some every year because they are so reliable and friendly! Cheryl, I think you'll have better luck if you do like Dooley said, just throw the seeds in the dirt :-o That's what I do and they grow every time!
