Just wondering? More often than not we have music in one form or another throughout the day. If I'm on my own I have it for company and the station of choice for me is ClassicFM for lots of beautiful music and not much chat. My husband has recently re-discoverd his vinyl collection and we enjoy a varied selection across a wide range of genres.Today for instance there was a Philip Glass string quartets CD and about 2 hours later a vinyl Elbow album called 'Dead in the Boot'.We are now listening to flamenco guitar played by a guitarist that played at a friend's wedding a few years ago.
Most definitely KM. Since I spend a lot of time in front of the laptop it's quite easy to turn on a tune at any time. It really helps to relax and work. I find YouTube amazing for when I remember a song but don't have it in my collection. They even have full albums if you search for them. I love a bit of everything!
Oh, definitely! I can't sing or play an instrument, but I am an accomplished listener. We like classical, folk, and my husband has a small collection of "old rock". I like to have either the radio or a CD on when I'm messing about in the kitchen.
Kaismum I to love to listen to Classical, jazz or easy listening but always without words. Just the music. My hubby doesn't like listening to any music. Yup. He grew up on a farm and never had time to listen to much music. But give him a news paper and he's in heaven so to speak.
And I love to listen to old time Country Music.Since I grew up at Grandmother's house. And Uncle played in band at very young age. They would practice in the BARN.He sat in with many groups.Very Good Steel guitar player.I had no Idea who was singing one night. Turned out to be Patcy Cline.
tooty, your hubby kind of sounds like me. My DH has 3 pianos here in the house. My daughter has two clarinets for band and plays the schools Eflat one for band on occasion, she and one of other sons took piano lessons for ten years and all of them play the pionos very well, another son has two trombones and sings in the choir at school and oldest son plays the piano and guitar...ME? I dust them. Kiasmum, the radio is hardly ever on here. I like it quiet.
I have been through the have to have music playing all day, then have to have the TV on, then have to have music again and now I am into listening to the fountain in the livingroom and/or the birds outside. I haven't listened to a radio in several years, the TV is never on during the day and I have several of my music CD's on the computer so I listen to one or more of them when the mood strikes me. When I do listen to music it can be anything from George Gershwin, 50's rock that I grew up with, Ed Ames, some groups from the 70's, Enya, Lorena McKinnett, Clannad or other Celtic groups, to Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart. A very diverse play list depending on my mood.
I don't play an instrument or sing that well so I am in awe of those who can do either or both to any standard in any genre. After I posted the question last night we went on to watch how they recreated the day at Abbey Road Studios in London that the Beatles recorded the Please Please Me album to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original. Followed by an interview with Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame,so all in all a very musical day. There are times when I don't have the radio on-these are mostly when the nextdoor neighbours are away and we don't have to listen to the whingeing and moaning of their 7yr old and 12 yr old. Then we relish the peace and quiet. :-D
I tell people the only instrument I can play is the stereo! I used to have music playing nearly 24 hours a day. And would buy a new CD practically every week. Now... it's not that big of a deal anymore. My favorite is rock & roll... from the 60s until now. And I love to listen to the Blues. My favorite performer is Eric Clapton and his new CD comes out tomorrow... hmmm... I think the last CD I purchased was his previous one a few years ago. And... he'll be in concert in Houston on Saturday. I'll be there! Hubby likes country/western... so I've learned to listen to that in small doses. Same with Zydeco... he can listen to it for hours, but to me it all starts to sound the same after about 30 minutes. On any given day, you'll never know what kind of music will be coming out of the stereo in the storage building... but you can bet it will be on. We both like having it playing in the background while we go about our day. I do have a radio/CD player in the house, but it's rarely used. When I know it's going to be a quiet day at work, I'll plug in my earphones and listen to the radio... but that doesn't happen to often.
Cheryl, we have about six Zydeco CD's and we'd be happy to copy them and send them to you! We like Zydeco--you just can't be unhappy listening to that music (my sister-in-law swears that Zydeco is the only time an accordion sounds good). Forgot to mention opera--love opera. We also have several CD's by Pavarotti, Cabreras, and Domingo. We were very fortunate to live at a time when there were three great tenors. Now Domingo is a baritone--go figure!
Another pair of Opera lovers here too Over the years we've seen getting on for 10 different ones on stage. We are very lucky to have Welsh National Opera that come to Oxford,a 45minute drive away. Our very first opera was La Boheme by WNO in Oxford.I can still,to this day remember how we felt as we left the theatre- we floated along on quite a high We had seats only 2 rows from the orchestra but we were so enthralled that we hardly noticed them at all.
Love music, all kinds. Except rap (is that even music?) Music makes the world go round (along with Love) Can't imagine a day without some tunes!
Absolutely. I am a self taught musician and play piano and organ, especially for my church. I want to teach myself guitar too. I have my late husband's guitar and lesson books, I just have to get myself a tuner for it. Then I can have at that too. I love to listen to old fashioned hymns, and classical such as Mozart and Beethoven, and the others. Sometimes I like some cowboy music, or old fashioned R&R, or other old music. The new junk is not music.
I think we are lucky living in the age that we do because of the ease of availability of music in many formats. There has recently been a series on TV here in the UK by a modern composer called Howard Goodall(who knows how to write good tunes) and one of the points he made was that there was a time not that long ago when someone would hear their favourite piece of music only 3 or 4 times in their entire life
