Well, I with my eye see the sea where a bare bear, or is it a dear deer, ate eight salmons yesterday. But in our last hour We know no knight this night that can sell the cell that belongs to two of you even if only one won it. Bye, by, buy. My Bride came across this one and after reading it, I thought I ought to post it. Perhaps Dutch isn’t so difficult after all...or at least we are not alone.
Ah Sjoerd, as a former "English as a second language" teacher, I can sooooo relate! The "two, too, to" had the students baffled, and heaven help us when we got to hear vs. here. Spanish is such a logical, lovely, and non-threatening language in comparison. Students kept asking, "Why do you have so many words that sound the same?" I could only reply that English speakers just loved to complicate things . . . .
My Bride has done that too, that is why she showed it to me; or should I say, caught her eye. Things with words, their meanings and origins are a thing of interest to me.
